Games are coming thick and fast at the moment with tonight's game being the third one at home in ten days. However, the team are winning and tonight we hope to carry that run on, against Swindon Town, Swindon are currently second from bottom of the Division with 7 points. On Monday, their manager, Andy King, was relieved of the manager's job, which is now in the temporary care of Iffy Onuora. Playing for them are Tom Heaton and Colin Heath, on loan from Manchester United as well as Patrick Collins, on loan from Sheffield Wednesday.
The Rovers have made two changes for the game. Leo Fortune-West comes in for Neil Roberts and Uros Predic replaces Paul Green, who suffered a dead leg on Saturday and isn't fit for tonight's game. The Rovers defended the Rossington end in the first half on a fine, dry but cool autumnal evening.
Swindon started the brighter, with Thorpe and Heath spurning the chances offered to them. Having survived this initial assault in the first few minutes, the Rovers got their act together and spent the next ten minutes camped in the Swindon half. Two successive free kicks from outside of the penalty area produced a fine strike from Predic which the keeper saved but couldn't hold then McIndoe was just over the bar with a terrific strike from 25 yards. This was followed by five successive corners from one of which McIndoe forced the keeper into going full length to push away and from another, Predic headed on at the near post but Fortune-West headed over the bar from close range. The match settled down into a more even contest at this point, with Budtz getting down well to his left to save from Shakes. On 21 minutes the Rovers had to make a substitution, Mulligan replacing Coppinger, who seemed to have taken a knock. Halfway through the half and the Rovers gained successive corners but nothing came of them. On 27 minutes, Predic produced a long pass out of defence to McIndoe on the left. A great low cross was just missed by Forte and then Fortune-West. However, Swindon were now enjoying their fair share of possession and causing some measure of panic in the Rovers defence but they survived. Then, on 37 minutes, Budtz punched well clear from a Swindon attack. The ball went down the left to the halfway line where FORTE picked it up and, giving Shakes half a yard start, shoved the ball past him and outstripped him to run on and slam past Heaton for a fine individual goal. The visitors were not out of it though. Four minutes from the break, a brilliant overhead kick by Fallon from 15 yards was equally brilliantly saved by Budtz diving to his right to palm away for a corner. Forte, for the Rovers, also had two more efforts on target but Heaton was well positioned to save. The break came after an entertaining first half, with the Rovers leading by the single goal.
The Rovers had to make a second substitution at the beginning of the second half. Steve Roberts was hobbling at the end of the first half and was replaced by Nick Fenton. Swindon had the first crack at goal after two minutes but McDermot screwed it well wide of goal. On 50 minutes, McIndoe was put away down the left and from the byline pulled the ball back for Fortune-West to crack over the bar from 10 yards. Swindon now began to have the better of the possession and were playing some neat football but the Rovers defence contained them well. On 62 minutes, another good cross from McIndoe saw Fortune-West's header saved by Heaton. Then minutes later a terrific run by Forte, who was hassled and harried all the way by two defenders and was forced to shoot into the side netting. Swindon then forced successive corners that were cleared before Mulligan fired a free kick from 25 yards just wide of a post. Swindon were now going all out to salvage something from the game and putting the Rovers defence under severe pressure. They held out but three minutes from normal time, Forte was sent off for a second booking. He was booked for time wasting at a throw in and, having been booked in the first half for his goal celebration, another yellow card meant an early bath. The pressure was definitely on now but Ravenhill cracked one that skimmed the top of the bar. Budtz then saved with his legs from Cureton. Incredibly, in added-on time, Ifill received a second caution and was thus despatched to the dressing room. With the last action of the match, Heffernan bore down on goal, his shot bounced up off a defender but Heaton palmed it on to the bar and over. The match ended with the Rovers third successive win in the League.
