A warm, muggy evening greeted the Rovers and their new management team, Sean O'Driscoll and Richard O'Kelly, at the Galpharm Stadium, Huddersfield for the first Yorkshire 'derby' of the season for the Rovers. The Rovers made three changes from Saturday's line-up. Graeme Lee came in for Adam Lockwood, who drops to the bench, Lewis Guy replaced Jonathan Forte alongside Paul Heffernan, Forte moving on to the substitutes bench and loan signing Brian Stock takes over from Sean Thornton. The home team made two changes from their last game, which was lost at Cheltenham, Pawel Abbott coming in for Beckett and Danny Schofield replaced Matthew Young.
The Rovers defended the end in which their supporters were housed and created a chance in the second minute when a quick break had Coppinger going down the right before putting a low ball through for Guy to run clear on goal but Guy's first touch was heavy and Glennon wasable to beat him to the ball. Ten minutes of end-to-end fast paced play followed before Huddersfield got in a sustained attack, which caused problems for the Rovers defence. Abbott finally got in a shot from close range, which Blayney parried but it rolled towards the far post and would have gone inside the post but Gareth Roberts got to it to clear. The home team then got the first corner of the game, which was cleared by the Rovers. The Rovers then won a free kick near the corner flag on their right but, as usual, the referee gave the goalkeeper a free kick as the Rovers tussled for the ball in the six yard box. At the other end Abbott screwed a shot from the right of goal past the far post. After 25 minutes, as the home team began to have slightly more of the play, Taylor-Fletcher came steaming through to get on the end of a ball from the right, hit it first time and saw it just go over the bar from about 15 yards. Minutes later, Green took a pass from Guy but fired over from 25 yards. The game continued to be played at a high tempo, with all the elements of a local 'derby' surfacing on 32 minutes when Price was cautioned for a foul on Taylor- Fletcher, with a dozen players congregating around the incident to express their varied opinions. Two minutes later, Guy, on the left byline, pulled the ball back for Gareth Roberts to cross to the middle for Price to head wide. With the break seven minutes away, Hudson got a rebound off Lee, created space for himself but put his shot wide of a post. Midfield play ensued in the remaining minutes, the interval coming with the score still the same as at the start.
The Rovers made a change at the start of the second half, with Budtz replacing Blayney in goal. The Rovers started the brighter, winning a corner three minutes into the half. It was cleared but back came the Rovers for Green to shoot wide from 25 yards. On 51 minutes, a cross from the home right was nodded down by Abbott for Hudson to lash in a shot from 20 yards that was tipped over the bar by Budtz. The corner was cleared and set the Rovers on the attack culminating in a good cross from Gareth Roberts being cleared by Mirfin. As the game got a bit feisty, Stock, for Rovers and Nathan Clarke, for Huddersfield, found their way into the referee's book of names. Then Price, already booked, found himself in trouble with the referee again and received a stiff and final lecture. He was substituted on 64 minutes by Forte. The home team came more into the game around this point, winning a couple of corners, which came to naught and in a further attack a cross from Abbott on the left was headed wide by Booth. Budtz was then in the right place to save a glancing effort from Taylor-Fletcher as a cross came in from the home left. With ten minutes to go the Rovers got back on stream, winning a couple of corners. Both keepers were then brought into the action, with Budtz cutting out a cross from the home right and Coppinger having a shot blocked at the other end followed by Green's header being saved. As time ran down, both sides strove hard for the winning goal as play switched from one end of the pitch to the other. Time came with the score still goalless and a hard earned point for the Rovers.
