MAY THE BEST TEAM WIN - SEAN
Doncaster Rovers face Cheltenham Town on Saturday afternoon at Whaddon Road, in a game that can seal promotion to the Coca-Cola Championship should the Rovers pick up three points.
"I think that everybody wants to get it on," Rovers manager Sean O'Driscoll told Rovers World in his pre-match press conference on Thursday.
"At this stage in the season, and I am sure that Cheltenham are the same, it feels almost as if it has been a long week. I think that we now want to get it done and dusted, to be honest. So, we're sort of chomping at the bit to get going and to hear the whistle for kick-off and then things can be decided as opposed to people just talking about it."
"It is in our hands and we would have taken that if it was offered at the beginning of August. We've given ourselves an opportunity and we will try to take our opportunity on Saturday."
"Promotion would show progress. Dave Penney did a great job when he was here and with a change of manager it can be hard to continue that progress. We've tried to do that - it's another step. There's a lot of financial implications and burdens in going up to The Championship and those are the kinds of things that - if we do go up - we will need to take into consideration. But now, I think that it is going to be an exciting conclusion which has, for many clubs, been a rollercoaster of a season."
"I can remember when Cheltenham Town were in the division below the Conference and they have done extremely well as a club; they have some good people there - a team of commited players who give it their all. They have a good home record and beat Leeds there this season, so it's not going to be easy - we know that. They are going to set their stall out early to try and stop what we want to be doing and we are going to need to match that. Sometimes, football clubs and results are dictated by something weird and wonderful and out of your control and I would be disappointed if something like that or something controversial affected the game. I want it to be a case of may the best team win on the day against Cheltenham and the best of luck to them."
