Doncaster Rovers are now a possible 90-minutes away from a place in the Coca-Cola League One Play-Off final at Wembley, following a 0-0 draw against Southend United at Roots Hall.

The result now means that the contest is level after the first of two legs, with the return match at the Keepmoat Stadium on Friday evening. Should the result remain level after 90-minutes, the game will go into extra time and penalties to decide a finalist to meet either Carlisle United or Leeds United at Wembley.

The two sides met at the end of 2007 at the Keepmoat Stadium; a game which saw goals from Adam Lockwood, Paul Green and Gareth Roberts hand the Rovers a comfortable victory despite Southend United getting temporarily back on level terms on the 18th minute through Charlie MacDonald.

"It's half-time now; but we were organised, disciplined and I was pleased with the performance," admitted Rovers manager Sean O'Driscoll following the first leg.

"We had a problem with Richie Wellens at the eighth hour and we had to change things about a little bit. I thought that we worked hard as a unit and that we could have created one or two more opportunities. Credit to Southend, they were a good side and I think that the home leg for both teams in the Play-Offs can be more difficult for the home side than for the away side."

"They were the form team in the League going into the Play-Offs and what you saw here were two good sides and it will be just as difficult in the home leg."

The game - unfortunately - saw the dismissal of Paul Heffernan late in the game, after the Irish striker appeared to put his head into the face of Southend defender Peter Clarke.

"Paul is obviously going to pay for the misdemeanour. You can't do what he did; you can't put your head into somebody else's face, whether it is a head-butt or a Glasgow Kiss as they call it. The referee saw it and they have got to do what the letter of the law says."

"If there is a plus to take from it, then it is that we have people who can fill that position. If it was a central defender getting sent off for three games, then we would really struggle - but we have got options up front. We brought three strikers on at the end - so it's not as bad as it could have been."
