FAN'S VIEW OF SOUTHEND 2ND LEG
Ahead of Doncaster Rovers big second-leg clash in the Play-Off semi-final against Southend United, it's sure to be a mixture of excitement and nerves ahead of 90-minutes, which could see the Rovers reach the Play-Off final against either Leeds United or Carlisle United - especially for the Rovers supporters.
As such, DoncasterRoversFC.co.uk felt it necessary to publish the thoughts of one such supporter, who believes that Friday evening's game could be one where dreams of Wembley are grasped.
"Well here we go again; the pain and pleasure of supporting our team is relentless/merciless/heartless [select as appropriate]. Those fans of a nervous disposition should really consider leaving the country until Saturday!
We found ourselves rock bottom early season and seemingly melting down. Just as we were calling for the heads of everyone from players to management to board members to fellow fans we charged up the table and maybe a play-off place was possible. Nah, not our style and forget that, we force ourselves into an automatic promotion spot. Jubilation was the order of the day and who could stop us now; "best footballing side in the division" - everyone agreed.
And, naturally, we want to make things interesting so trip up with style, and well, to be honest, being sat in the play-offs was as good as we could have hoped for in October so, hey-ho.
Hang on, Carlisle trip up and we're back with an auto promotion chance; it's hell out there and he we are at Cheltenham and it's in our hands again. We could sell as many tickets as they'd give us and it's a balloonfest.
For heaven's sake, like some Shakespearean tragedy it's the play-offs for definate after a gut-wrenching yet spectacular display from Shane Higgs. The pain was immeasurable, off the scale and we were shattered - again.
Who do we come up against in the Play-Offs but Southend, probably the form team of League One over the last couple of months. Whilst in the subject of our current foes, who can forget our stunning FA Cup victory when in the lower reaches of the Conference all those years ago?
Roots Hall was a sea of blue and white flags last Friday evening and, for all in attendance, the atmosphere harked back to the ever-heralded Mansfield away win; where a Greg Blundell brace had us all in raptures.
This Friday, we have the opportunity to grasp a Wembley dream and enjoy our second major final in two years.
Our talisman, Paul Green, is again a driving force, and an example of what can be achieved with commitment, belief and passion. This heady mix is exactly what is needed to coarse through the veins of the fans from now on.
Lets not forget the words of Glyn; our new local poet laureate:
We don't care about Rotherham
We don't care about Leeds
All we care about is [pause] D R F C
RTID"
