Miss Doncaster at the Keepmoat
Last Friday, the staff (particularly the males) at Doncaster Rovers were treated to a special guest at the Keepmoat Stadium. Many people would believe that the only people putting Donny on the map would be the Rovers, however they would be wrong - as one lass from Doncaster could also do wonders to get the town recognised universally.
Annabel Jones has recently been voted 'Miss Doncaster', with the title now entering her as a contestant for the crown of 'Miss England', which takes place in June. Should Annabel be successful in that contest - she would go on to represent the nation in the legendary 'Miss World' competition. So how does it feel to officially be 'Miss Doncaster'?
"It feels great. I waited a year for it, because I came second last year as a runner up. I feel really privileged because I'm a born and bred Donny girl."
As well as being gorgeous, Annabel has also got a fantastic education behind her. The 17-year old passed all of her GCSEs and is currently studying towards her A-levels. At college, Annabel is taking Drama, Performing Arts and Sociology. A natural performer, she passed her AS-level Performing Arts with a 100% in her practical exam. In addition to her performing skills, Annabel is also an accomplished musician - specialising in singing and has just started to play the piano. However her most recent accomplishment - winning 'Miss Doncaster', is one that she is very proud of.
"The 'Miss Doncaster' event is all on one night. The first step is to apply online and get your sponsor. My sponsor is Cusworth's Motorbikes - whom I'm very thankful to. They sponsored me £145, which is a bit steep, but they were great. Then on the evening you go on stage in your daywear and then your nightwear, which needs to be a bit funky - you do your dance. Then you answer two questions on stage to see whether you are a good public speaker. After that, the judges announce the top five. The next stage involves the top five asking why you would like to win it and the winner is based on that. Luckily, it was me!"
Because it was Annabel, the 5'7'' blonde now faces travelling to Leicester to take part in the 'Miss England' finals.
"The finals for 'Miss England' are in June. I'm a bit nervous. The event spans over three nights, being a three-day event - so it is quite a big thing. I think the more daunting thing is that if I'm successful that leads on to 'Miss World'. So, yeah, I am a bit nervous. Between now and then I am also in a talent contest, which I'm also hoping I can win to get onto it."
As you can tell from the photos, Annabel is also a massive Doncaster Rovers fan.
"It all started with my cousin Joe. He is probably the number one Rovers fan and he was the one that got me into coming to watch the Rovers. He is here with me today and he's dressed from head-to-toe in Rovers gear."
Annabel is also a girl with lots of ambitions in life. Her dream is to be admitted into one of the country's top performing arts schools in order to fulfil her aim of appearing on the West End. With her fame, she aspires to be a role model for younger people, in addition to using her potential fame to assist in raising funds for numerous charities. So, apart from her love for the mighty Rovers, why should supporters vote for Annabel as 'Miss England'?
"I'm a Donny lass through-and-through. I think I stand a great chance of winning 'Miss England'. I'm confident, friendly?not bad looking! I think I stand as good a chance as anyone in the competition - but I want to do this and let's get Donny on the map!"
The 'Miss England' finals take place from the 28th-30th June at the Athena in Leicester. Keep checking this site for more details of how you could possibly vote, or click for more information.
