With the Rovers ascent to the upper reaches of the Coca-Cola League One table, it is hard to highlight a key performer for Sean O'Driscoll's side this term. However, one name that is undoubtedly in the running is striker Lewis Guy, whose form has made him one of the most valuable players in the Rovers squad.

"It's been a good season. I feel that I have had two really good months where I was playing well and scoring goals. The manager has then changed things around a little bit and the lads who have come in have done brilliantly also, carrying on from the sort of thing that we were doing whilst I was in the team. I've always felt that I have the ability to make things happen - I've never really doubted it. Like I've said before, no matter what has happened, my team-mates and the manager have always stuck by me and I knew that what I could would soon show. If anybody sings your praises - whether it is the manager or the kit man - it gives you confidence to go out there and believe in yourself."

With many hard-working performances, it is hard to select a Lewis Guy performance that has shone from the rest - as the former Newcastle forward's performances have been both consistent and impressive. However, Guy feels that there is one on a personal level that has been his best.

"It's funny you should ask me that, because we were watching the game against Cheltenham at the Keepmoat the other day and I would say that from a personal point of view, that performance stands out for me; as much as a team performance as well as how I did. The last three home games, from a team point of view, have been quality."

And what about goals? Guy has scored eight goals this season - joint top-scorer for the Rovers in the League with six alongside fellow striker James Hayter.

"Undoubtedly for me, the best goal that I scored was the header against Port Vale in the League. I get stick off a lot of people saying that I can't score with my head and I like to think that the goal against Port Vale proved some people wrong with that goal. I enjoyed the goal against Crewe Alexandra at Gresty Road as well. I remember I was on the bench with eight minutes later and Richard (O'Kelly) said to me 'go on and make an impact' - and I'd like to believe that is what I did by scoring that goal. It was a great goal - it was also a great team goal. The lads in that game played well from start to finish and it was terrific to get onto the end of the ball for the finish."

The 22-year old has featured in the Rovers side with a selection of different forwards throughout his three-year spell at Doncaster. Guy believes that the current squad is the best that there has been for the Rovers and as such believes that any strike partnership will be an affective one - with or without his inclusion.

"All the strikers that we have here at the Club are great players and whatever partnership the team has up front, whether it is me and Mark McCammon or Mark McCammon and Jason Price, we know that it's going to work because all the players work well together and are - individually - good players."

The Rovers go into the clash against Carlisle United on Saturday in seventh place in League One, with a game in hand over their promotion rivals.

"The season thus far has been unbelievable; I say unbelievable but at the same time it is very much believable, because we have said from day one that we should be up there in the League and why we weren't up there from the start only God knows. Hopefully, know that we are there we can stay there. We are looking at this second half of the season in two ways. We could look at it as merely the second half of the season and see how it goes - or we could say 'let's make a good go of this and give it a good push' and that is what we want to do. That is the feeling here at this Club, from the laundry girls to the manager. When we win, we win together. When we lose, we lose together. We're not going to get carried away by our position in the League, the manager would never let us do that, but deep down - person-to-person - we know what we want to do and we are going to go out and do that."

For Lewis Guy - who was born in Penrith - the clash could feature the striker going up against his local side growing up, with the Rovers number 7 hoping to make an impact.

"It's going to be a tough game. Their fans believe that they can get promoted like hopefully our fans believe that we can. It's a clash at the top of table - I still have a couple of friends who play for Carlisle, a lot of friends and family support Carlisle so it will be a good game. I'd like to go out and make an impact against them."
