COPPS SET FOR PENULTIMATE GAME
Doncaster Rovers missed out on the chance to slip into second place in Coca-Cola League One last weekend by managing a 1-1 draw against Leyton Orient, whilst second spot contenders Carlisle United fell 2-1 to Southend.
For midfielder James Coppinger - the feeling of not capitalising on Carlisle faltering was one of disappointment, but the player is now looking ahead to the final two games of the season in positive fashion.
"It was disappointing, to be honest. Obviously, we knew that if Carlisle were beaten and we had got three points then we would have been in a strong position. At the end of the day, though - we got a point and now, we're only two points behind them. It was disappointing on Saturday - but back on the training field we will build on that game and look to get a win against Luton and keep the pressure on Carlisle. They have Millwall away, which will be tough. The main focus is on what we do - and as long as we concentrate on that then we will see what happens."
"The majority of us can't help but look at the table, when things are as tight as they are at the moment. I've never known it this close at the end of the season! The atmosphere is still good despite missing out on that chance of going second. It was a low feeling on Saturday evening - but now it's a case of getting over it; picking ourselves up and getting two wins in our last two games."
The first of those last two games takes place at the Keepmoat Stadium on Saturday (3:00 KO), where Coppinger and the Rovers take on already relegated Luton Town.
"Some would say - 'look at the last two games, that's two wins' - but nothing is guaranteed in this division. The same could be said about Carlisle's run-in against Millwall and Bournemouth - but it just isn't the case. Luton have got no pressure whatsoever and from what I have heard - they did well against Nottingham Forest last weekend and were unlucky to get beat. If we do what we do and Carlisle slip up, then we will be in that automatic promotion place."
"The fans are so important in this game. The last time we played them, I had just come back from injury and it was a good game. We should have won that game to be honest! The fans will be as disappointed as we would be should we not get that second spot - we can get there again on Saturday and if the supporters get behind us - it is so much easier for the lads. It acts as a twelfth man - old cliché - but so true."
