A mild but breezy morning greeted the two teams for this match at Cantley Park as Rovers continued their progress towards the top of the league.

Rovers had a quick fire start and took the lead on two minutes when Jason HARDY shot passed the keepers right to make it 1-0.

More Rovers pressure led them to making it 2-0 on fourteen minutes when good work by Fairhurst on the left allowed STORER to bullet a header into the York net from the resulting corner.

After the first fifteen minutes York came more into the game and were unlucky not to get on the score sheet as Biggs in the Rovers goal made a some good saves, especially from a number of free kicks and corners which York gained.

The rest of the first half continued with York creating the best chances but poor finishing and some bad luck meant that Rovers went in at half time with a two goal lead.

The second half started with the wind getting a little stronger and York continuing to dictate the play, on fifty minutes another good save by Biggs in the Rovers goal stopped York from scoring but they eventually pulled a goal back on fifty five minutes after constant pressure when Emerson slotted the ball home to make it 2-1, then on sixty one minutes a point blank save from Biggs stopped a certain equaliser.

Rovers were struggling and relying on breakaways as York pressed hard but against the run of play on sixty eight minutes HENDERSON curled a fine shot from the right which gave the keeper no chance to increase Rovers lead to 3-1, this inspired them and they soon made it 4-1 when on seventy two minutes STODDART, who had earlier come on as substitute scored.

Rovers were now in full control and were unlucky not to increase their lead further, in injury time a brilliant finger tip save by Biggs from a York free kick stopped another certain York goal but in the end

Rovers ran out comfortable winners to keep their title hopes alive.
